My story
Where do I start? Well, I didn't know what graduate program I needed to practice how I envisioned. So I applied to them all: Clinical Psychology, School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, and I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two; I submitted many applications. My Master's Degree was actually in School Counseling. I completed an additional degree, Educational Specialist, to take the required courses to be eligible to be a mental health therapist. It comes full circle because my first job out of graduate school was a school-based therapist. I was based in 3 elementary schools providing therapeutic services to students in self-contained classrooms due to behaviors that inhibited them from being in general education classrooms. Overall, I have practiced in inpatient/acute care, residential, community mental health and group practice. All these experiences have evolved my practice and led my career right here.
My treatment approach is integrative, incorporating Person-Centered, Solution-Focused, Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also utilize components of Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I have also completed training for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
